Purple coneflower was one of the main plants used by the native North Americans!

Short introduction

The name derives from the Greek echinos, meaning "hedgehog", and refers to the flower head, which is covered in quills. The Latin purpurea means "purple" and announces the purplish-pink colour of the flower. Originating from the centre of North America, its root was used by the American Indians (Sioux, Comanches), being applied externally to treat wounds, burns, insect bites and snake bites. The first European immigrants quickly regarded it as a panacea. It is one of the adaptogenic plants and it contributes in particular to the body's immune system. We know about a dozen species of echinacea but three are very well known for their use in ethnobotany and their reputation in herbalism: E. purpurea, E. angustifolia and E. pallida!

Active ingredients and nutrients

We use the purple coneflower root because it contains a large amount of nutrients, such as:
• Alkylamides (echinacin)
• Phenolic compounds (echinosides cynarine,...)
• Polysaccharides
